Distillate vs Hash Rosin vs Live Resin: What’s The Difference & What’s Best For You?
When it comes to cannabis extracts, is there really a difference between the concentrates you see at the dispensary? From Distillate, Hash Rosin, Live Resin, each version of an extract has its own story – From texture to flavour to effect, each version of these extracts will provide a unique journey from beginning to end.
Distillate - Most Commonly Found
Distillate is a potent cannabis extract known for high THC content and usually associated with strong flavour profiles. Distillate is most commonly used for Vape carts, Edibles and joint infusions for a kick in potency and specific flavours. Distillate contains only a single cannabinoid — in many cases, just THC — it is the polar opposite of full-spectrum extracts, which contain all cannabinoids and terpenes found in cannabis.
The Distillate process usually starts *with a Solvent extraction* of the less than desirable products, using CO2, Ethanol and or Hydrocarbons. When doing this, it yields a crude looking oil that is then passed through a distillation machine that vaporizes the oil.
Terpenes can be collected at the start of the process or added a later time in the process which in turn allows for an increase in specific flavours and or effects.
Hash Rosin
Hash rosin is a cannabis concentrate known for its quality and potent effects.
Unlike Distillate, Hash Rosin is created from freshly frozen cannabis which ensures the preservation of the plant’s natural flavors, aromas, and cannabinoids. Hash rosin boasts a rich and diverse spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes and is considered “Pure” and “Solventless” in nature since there is no chemicals being used in the process.
Hash Rosin can be found in many Edibles and Pre Rolls and of course as its own extract. The effects of Hash Rosin are stronger, contain more natural flavours and render a better overall experience when consumed.
Live Resin
Live Resin, similar to Hash Rosin, is a concentrated cannabis extract known for its rich flavor profile and sticky texture.
Resin is favoured by many of those who Dab and Vape since Live Resin’s Full-Spectrum nature almost always captures the broadest possible range of cannabinoids and terpenes – Some would say it closely resembles the cannabis plant from which it’s derived. Live resin can also be an excellent addition to Joints to kick up potency and add flavour to flower.
Live Resin products usually yield lower potency numbers though effects will still be very similar to that of Hash Rosin and Distillate.
What's the best option for me?
There is no “best” option when deciding between distillate, live resin, or hash rosin. Whether it’s the rich flavors and aromatic qualities of Live Resin, the high potency of cannabis Distillate, or the purity and solventless nature of Hash Rosin, each extract offers unique characteristics catering to diverse preferences. With that said, the choice ultimately comes down to your preference, desired effects and wallet!
